Christmas Reminds Us of the Hope Still Before Us

Merry Christmas, everyone! Joyeux Noël, tout le monde!

On the way back from our Equipping for Cross-Cultural Life and Ministry course in North Carolina, we attended Sunday morning service at New Hope Baptist Church in Fayetteville, Georgia. John Waller, a worship leader at New Hope who is also an accomplished Christian performer/ recording artist and a father of ten, led us in a song he wrote called
Of All the Places

It talks about how the Lord of glory came to us in a barn and then died for us on a cross. What powerful truths! What awesome humility! The Word of God made flesh – the Creator and Sustainer of all things – humbled Himself to not only behold the things in His heavens and His earth (Ps. 113:6) but to be born in a stable and to be laid in a manger (in an animal’s troth)!

His birth announcement was given to shepherds in a field and not noblemen in a royal court. His birthplace was a small town and not the capital city. His star was seen, studied, and followed by foreign sages and not by those of His own people. His was a king’s birth and early life set in the most unlikely places surrounded by the most unlikely subjects.

Then, after perfectly fulfilling the Law of God His Father in the face of temptation, the uniqueness of His calling, and the cruelness of this sin-racked world (Isa. 53:3), Jesus perfectly satisfied the Law of God His Father by humbling Himself to the point of death, even death on a cross (Phil. 2:8)...FOR US! His was a king’s death in a most unlikely manner...FOR THE MOST UNLIKELY REASONS...US! Jesus took God's due wrath toward our condemning sin upon His innocent Self! And now raised, now ascended, and now exulted, He is not only alive forevermore, He is NOW, once again, THE ANTICIPATED COMING KING!

Christmas reminds us that Good Friday is near…which reminds us that Easter is near…and still the Story is not over. We anticipate that Jesus' return is now also near! Not only can we look forward to the day that we have set aside to annually celebrate His awesome and unique, only-one-of-a-kind birth, we can also anticipate the day when King Jesus will return in glory and in victory for all to see!
Christmas is more than just a day for family and merriment. For those who have been born again through faith in Him, it is a hope of life to come – life with our Lord and Savior forever. So, as you celebrate, ANTICIPATE! Jesus temporarily made His home with us so that we can permanently have a home with Him!

We love you. Thank you for your love, prayers, and support! Have a blessed Holy-Day as you remember the reason for this season! Merry Christmas! Joyeux Noël!
